Yeshwantpur-Karwar day train service restored with two Vistadome coaches
Mangaluru, Aug 14: Bowing to public demand, the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has decided to resume services of Yeshwantpur-Karwar-Yeshwantpur tri-weekly (daytime) express between Mangaluru and Karwar.
The service was cancelled between Mangaluru junction and Karwar in May. The restoration of services will initially be for a period of three months.
The South Western Railway (SWR) which runs the train, issued the notification for resumption of the service on Friday after KRCL gave the nod.
Train No. 06211 will resume service with effect from August 16 till November 26 between Mangaluru junction and Karwar and the pairing train No. 06212 will resume service between Karwar and Mangaluru junction from August 17 till November 27. The trains will run as fully reserved special services, a release from SWR said.
The Yeshwantpur-Karwar-Yeshwantpur tri-weekly special (daytime) express has an additional attraction for travellers as it has two vistadome coaches which offer pristine view of the Western Ghats on the route between Sakleshpur and Mangaluru.

West Bengal: EC orders suspension of joint BDO ahead of polls
Kolkata (PTI): The Election Commission on Friday ordered the immediate suspension of a joint block development officer (BDO) in poll-bound West Bengal and directed the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against her.
The poll body, however, did not mention the grounds for the action.
In a letter to the chief secretary of West Bengal, the poll panel said the action against Jyotsna Khatun, the joint BDO of Purba Bardhaman district's Khandaghosh, is based on a recommendation from the chief electoral officer of the state.
"The commission has agreed to the proposal and directs that Jyotsna Khatun be suspended and disciplinary action be initiated against her immediately," the EC stated in its letter to the West Bengal chief secretary.
Khatun had been notified as the Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) for the 259-Khandaghosh Assembly Constituency.
The poll panel has asked authorities to implement the order "with immediate effect" and submit a compliance report by 11 am of Saturday.
The letter also instructed the authorities to urgently propose a replacement for the vacant post.
