Bengaluru: Home Minister of Karnataka Dr. G Parameshwara told reporters who met him outside his residence at Sadashivanagar on Monday that he had held discussions about accelerating the Yettinahole project with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

The Home Minister said that more funds and land were needed for the project. He clarified that up to 5,000 acres of land in Doddaballapur of Bengaluru North district were required to collect water under the project, but as 2,500 acres were under Koratagere constituency, the earlier government had stalled the work.

Discussions were held with the Deputy CM regarding lifting the ban as the district needs to be supplied water at least by 2025, he added.

Parameshwara also explained, “We have received permission to build an express canal from Gubbi to Kunigal in Tumakuru district, but the locals have objected to the work and it was important to raise the issue before the Deputy CM. Shivakumar said that the technical committee of the Irrigation Department will conduct a survey and submit its report, after which, the work can be continued.”

When asked to comment on the statement made by BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, who claimed that a ‘great leader’ having Rs 1,000 crore was waiting to become the Chief Minister of Karnataka, the Home Minister said, “I have never seen an amount of that high level in my life. Where is the amount kept, meant to destroy the current government, only Yatnal can answer.”

Parameshwara, however, admitted that the matter would require investigation. Filing a suo motu case too would be considered if necessary.

Bareilly (UP), Nov 24: Three people died when their car fell into the Ramganga river from a partially constructed bridge here on Sunday, police said, adding that they suspect the driver was misled by its navigation system into taking the unsafe route.

The accident occurred around 10 am on the Khalpur-Dataganj road when the victims were travelling from Bareilly to Dataganj in the Badaun district, they said.

"Earlier this year, floods had caused the front portion of the bridge to collapse into the river, but this change had not been updated in the system," Circle Officer Ashutosh Shivam said.

The driver was using a navigation system and did not realise that the bridge was unsafe, driving the car off the damaged section, the police said.

There were no safety barriers or warning signs on the approach to the damaged bridge, leading to the fatal accident, Shivam said.

Upon receiving information, police teams from Faridpur, Bareilly and Dataganj police station rushed to the spot. They recovered the vehicle and the bodies from the river, Shivam added.

The circle officer said that bodies had been sent for post-mortem. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
