Bengaluru: Two FIRs have been registered against Kannada actor Darshan and several rowdy-sheeters for allegedly receiving special privileges while imprisoned at Bengaluru's Central Jail. The complaints were filed at the Parappana Agrahara police station on Monday evening, following reports of violations of prison regulations.

Police have launched investigations into three specific incidents. The first FIR relates to a photograph showing Darshan, along with rowdy-sheeters Wilson Garden Naga, Srinivas alias Kulla Seena, and the actor's manager Nagaraj, sitting in the lawn of Block 1, where Naga is lodged. The photo, believed to have been taken by an associate of Naga, was allegedly shared with Darshan's fans in Mysuru.

The second FIR involves a video call between Darshan and a man named Sathya J, son of a former rowdy-sheeter. The call was reportedly facilitated by Dharma, another inmate, who connected Darshan to Sathya during their time in prison.

The third case under investigation involves suspicious activities observed during a surprise inspection by Central Crime Branch officers. Several inmates and staff were found moving around the prison during the early hours, leading to concerns of illegal activities.

The first two cases have been registered under the Karnataka Prisoners Act, while the third case includes charges under the Karnataka Prisoners Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 323 (concealment of property) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence). DGP (Prisons) Malini Krishnamurthy and DCP (Southeast) Sarah Fathima have confirmed ongoing investigations into these incidents.

Bengaluru (PTI): Over 60 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 5 pm in both Assembly constituencies in Karnataka, where bypolls were held on Thursday.

While the turnout in Bagalkot was 65.68 per cent, it was 63.04 per cent in Davanagere South.

While the ruling Congress faces the challenge of retaining both seats, the BJP aims to wrest them and deliver a setback to its rival, which is currently witnessing an "internal power struggle" over leadership.

The bypolls were necessitated due to the demise of senior Congress MLAs H Y Meti (Bagalkot) and Shamanur Shivashankarappa (Davanagere South).

A total of over 2.59 lakh eligible voters are expected to cast their votes at around 319 polling stations in Bagalkot, where nine candidates are in the fray.

In Davanagere South, over 2.31 lakh eligible voters are expected to vote across 284 polling stations, with 25 candidates contesting.

The BJP has fielded former MLA and 2023 defeated candidate Veerabhadrayya Charantimath from Bagalkot, and a fresh face, Srinivas T Dasakariyappa, from Davanagere South.

The Congress has given tickets to family members of the late legislators in both constituencies. Bagalkot candidate Umesh Meti is the son of H Y Meti, while Samarth Mallikarjun from Davanagere South is the grandson of Shamanur Shivashankarappa.
