New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of three women IPS officers to probe the rape of a minor in Gurugram.

A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and including Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi, has reportedly issued show-cause notices to Gurugram Police officers who had been involved in the investigation of the case, directing them to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against them.

The judges also asked the Child Welfare Committee members to explain why they should not be dismissed for handling the case in an insensitive manner.

They also asked a doctor of Max Hospital why she changed her report on the case after the apex court took cognizance of the matter.

In addition, the Supreme Court asked the Gurugram Police to hand over the findings in the case to the newly formed SIT by Thursday.

The Supreme Court order heard the petition filed by the parents of the rape victim asking for a probe of the case by CBI or SIT.

The Court issued notices to the Haryana Police and other parties named in the petition on Monday, March 23, expressing shock over the insensitive handling of the case where a four-year-old girl in Gurugram had been raped.

The bench has scheduled the next hearing for April 6.
