Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has transferred the investigation into the Ballari Reddy groups clash and firing incident, in which a Congress worker was killed, to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The clash had erupted over the installation of a banner in Ballari, leading to violence between BJP and Congress workers and culminating in a firing incident. As the case took on a strong political dimension and triggered widespread controversy, the state government took the significant decision to hand over the probe to the CID. All cases registered at the Brucepet police station in Ballari have now been transferred to the CID, police sources said.

25 accused granted bail

In the group clash and firing case, the 42nd ACJM court in Bengaluru on Friday (January 9) granted bail to 25 accused, excluding gunman Gurucharan Singh.

A total of six cases were registered at the Brucepet police station in connection with the incident. Police had arrested 26 people, including gunmen Gurucharan Singh, Baljit Singh, and Mahendra Singh, along with 10 Congress workers and 11 BJP workers.

Out of these, the court granted bail to 25 accused arrested in Crime No. 4 of the case. However, bail was denied to the prime accused, private gunman Gurucharan Singh, as investigation revealed that 12 MA bullets were fired from the gun linked to him.

The case continues to remain politically sensitive as the CID begins its detailed investigation into the incident.
