Bengaluru, September 28: Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwar said that the election of Congress and JDS candidates as mayor and deputy mayor for BBMP was the proof for the safety of the coalition government in the state.

After felicitating newly elected Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun and Deputy mayor Rameela Umashankar at the BBMP here on Friday, the DCM said that the mayor has got 131 votes while deputy mayor has got 129 votes and thus captured the power and this was a humiliation to the BJP. Though BJP has tried to hijack the independent corporators of the BBMP, Congress and JDS coalition has managed to win the election. There was no truth in the allegation of BJP, he said.

“Congratulations to Gangambike Mallikarjun and Rameela Umashankar who were elected as mayor and deputy mayor respectively. Congress-JDS coalition has got the victory. With this, the responsibility of the coalition government has increased. I hope that we will manage this effectively”.

-          HD Kumaraswamy, Chief Minister

“The BJP has witnessed a humiliating defeat by trying to destabilize the Congress-JDS coalition government in the state. It has failed in its ‘Operation Corporators’ attempt in the BBMP. Mayor and Deputy Mayor were elected with the cooperation from all corporators. The BJP has tried to put pressure on JDS members inside the Corporation and thus killed the democracy”.

-          Dinesh Gundu Rao, KPCC President
