Belagavi: The death of 34-year-old Renuka Santosh Honakande in Malabadi village, Belagavi, initially believed to be a road accident, has now been revealed as a brutal murder carried out by her own family members, reportedly due to her inability to bear children.
Police investigations revealed that Renuka was killed around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday by her mother-in-law Jayashree Honakande, father-in-law Kamanna Honakande, and husband Santosh Honakande, allegedly because she was unable to bear children, as reported by The New Indian Express on Monday.
After the murder, they tried to mislead authorities by staging the crime scene to resemble a bike accident. Kamanna and Jayashree reportedly took Renuka on a motorbike, pretending it was a casual ride. Near Malabadi village, they allegedly pushed her off the bike, hit her head with a stone, and strangled her using a saree.
To cover up the crime, they wrapped her saree around the bike’s rear wheel and dragged her body for nearly 120 feet to make it appear as though she had died in an accident after falling off the motorcycle, the report added.
The suspicious circumstances surrounding Renuka's death led her relative, Harish Mallikarjun Harali, to lodge a complaint. In response, Athani police initiated an inquiry.
As the investigation unfolded, police discovered strong evidence suggesting the crime was premeditated.
Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled confirmed that Renuka's husband, Santosh, was also involved in instigating the murder. All three main accused—Santosh, Kamanna, and Jayashree—were arrested and are currently in judicial custody.

Bose questioned the expenditure in the post X, “when Everyone knows RSS is Not Registered & Does not Pay any Tax is it justified to spend Tax Payers Money on such Private event??”
Reacting to the development, Karnataka’s IT-BT and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge also criticised the spending.
In a post on X, he asked why public money was being used for what he described as a “private ideological project.”
"Modi Sarkar spent Rs 76,13,129 of public money on newspaper advertisements to celebrate 100 years of the RSS. Why is Government spending taxpayers money on an unregistered, non-tax-paying organisation to celebrate their centenary?," he added.

According to reports, the RSS describes itself as a volunteer-based organisation and has stated that it functions as a body of individuals rather than a registered entity.
Founded by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in 1925, the organisation is marking its centenary year beginning from Vijaydashami in 2025, with the milestone observed on October 2.
