Bengaluru: As per the order of the Central Division’s DCP, a sub-inspector and an assistant sub-inspector were suspended from duty in the background of the allegation of extorting money from a gold merchant.

The suspended officers have been identified as SK Park Police Station’s SI Ashok Thakur and ASI Ramesh.

On December 3, the police officers are learned to have seized the jewellery merchant’s bag, in which the merchant was carrying gold to his shop, and took the merchant, with his bag, to the police station. The officers, however, made no entry in the station’s record book, about the confiscation of the bag and taking the merchant into custody.

The same day, the officers handed the bag with the gold to a person, who was called from near the Town Hall, and told him to extort money from the merchant in exchange for the bag of gold, it is learned.

Following allegations of extortion made against the two officers, the latter were suspended from duty.
