Bengaluru: Burglar who built Rs 3 crore house for girlfriend arrested for theft worth Rs 14 lakhs
Bengaluru, Feb 05: A 37-year-old burglar who allegedly built a Rs 3 crore bunglow for his girlfriend using the robbed money was arrested in a case of theft of ornaments worth Rs 14 lakh at a house here, the police said on Wednesday.
They said Panchakshari Swamy, who hails from Solapur in Maharashtra, was married and had children but he spent the robbed money lavishly on other women.
He has allegedly committed thefts in many parts of the country over the past two decades.
According to the police, Swamy has been arrested in a case of theft of gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 14 lakh from a house at Maruti Nagar in Bengaluru that occurred on January 9.
His involvement in the theft was revealed with the help of footage from more than 200 CCTV cameras.
With his arrest, the police have seized gold biscuits of 181 gm, silver ornaments of 33 g and a firearm from him.
The police said Swamy started burglaries in 2003 when he was a minor and by 2009, he had become an expert, gaining wealth worth crores through thefts, burglaries and robberies. It was in 2014-15 that he started dating an actress and spent lavishly on her by building a Rs 3 crore house for her in Kolkata, a senior police officer said.
He also allegedly gifted her an aquarium worth Rs 22 lakh, he said, adding he also had links with some other actresses.
The police said that he mostly operated alone and kept a watch over empty houses so that he could target them easily and after committing the theft, he would change clothes to avoid suspicion.

Dube, Chakravarthy star as India end league stage with 17-run win over Netherlands
Ahmedabad (PTI): Shivam Dube played a momentum changing knock before Varun Chakravarthy produced another incisive spell to set up India's convincing 17-run victory over the Netherlands in their final league fixture of the T20 World Cup here on Wednesday.
Despite the top-order struggles against off-spinner Aryan Dutt, India managed to make a challenging 193 for six courtesy the fireworks from Shivam Dube (66 off 31) in the second half of the innings.
The Netherlands were always behind in the chase and doors on them were shut by Chakravarthy (3/14 in 3 overs), who did the damage in the powerplay as well as in the middle overs.
Staying true to his strength, the mystery spinner relentlessly attacked the stumps, removing Colin Ackermann and Aryan Dutt in successive balls in the 13th over to leave the Netherlands at 94 for four.
Soon after, a well set Bas de Leede and captain Scott Edwards were dismissed, snuffing out all hopes for the associate nation who ended their campaign with three losses and a solitary win.
Zach Lion-Cachet (26 not out off 16) and Noah Croes (25 not out off 12) made things more interesting in the death overs but were left with too much to do despite collecting 18 runs from Hardik Pandya in the 19th over.

Dube shared a 76-run stand with Hardik (30 off 21) to provide the push in the last five overs that yielded 75 runs.
