Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Ashwath Narayan on Wednesday spoke about the State government’s plan to provide free internet to people in Bengaluru city by installing WI-FI hotspots at different parts of the city.

Speaking to reporters in city he said, “The government is planning to install 4000 WI-FI hotspots across the city as a part of Bengaluru smartcity project. This is a Rs. 100 crore project and is also part of Digital Karnataka and Digital India initiatives.”

Narayan also noted that the provided wifi will boast a speed of 1 gigabyte and the installation process of towers and hotspots will be done with assistance from BBMP.

He also noted that the project will be implemented in next nine months.

Koppal: Former Legislative Council member Kariyanna H. Sangati (61) passed away at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Monday morning due to multiple organ failure.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, three daughters, and a large number of relatives.

Sangati was a close associate of D. K. Shivakumar. He had contested the 2008 Assembly elections as an independent candidate from Koppal constituency and the 2018 elections from Gangavathi constituency on a JD(S) ticket.

He also served as President of the Koppal Zilla Panchayat and held positions such as President of Kalidasa Educational Institutions and Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Mandal, besides serving in various roles in the district.

Minister for Backward Classes Welfare and Kannada and Culture Shivaraj Tangadagi expressed grief over his demise.

“He was a distinguished member of the Legislative Council and a respected parliamentary figure. His death is painful. May God give his family and followers the strength to bear this grief,” he said in a condolence message.
