For over 18 months, residents of Kamadhenu Layout in Mahadevapura have been facing a significant water crisis, compelling them to rely on a small number of private water tankers for their daily consumption. The scarcity has intensified to the extent that families are competing against each other to secure these vital services, leading to monthly expenses of ₹10,000 to ₹25,000 for water delivery.

Officials of BWSSB believe that the delay in tackling the crisis was due to the yet-to-be-activated Cauvery Stage 5. Software engineer and first-time father Rishabh Aditya said he shares all his challenges: "The water supply is inconsistent and we get water only on certain days. It affects my family too.” Residents are paying Rs 1500 to 4000 for 5,000 litres of water through a tanker, which makes them shell out between Rs 15,000 and 40,000 every month, according to their requirements.

Another local, Naveenchandra Keshavmurthy, said that his family has to spend between ₹20,000 and ₹35,000 a month on water. “The absence of BWSSB water supply has left us in utter anguish. We've complained, but nothing has been done," he lamented.

The senior residents of the area are also severely hit, especially those who are pensioners and depend on their savings. "We, retired people suffer from it in particular. Our monthly expenditure is too high even for a small water supply, and our daily dependence on tankers is draining our money, said one elderly local Jaishankar V.

Locally, tanker owner Venkateshwar reiterated the challenges operators face in sourcing and supplying water to this region.Water tanker operators in Kamadhenu Layout acknowledge the high demand but struggle to meet the needs of all residents. "We charge reasonable rates, but residents still complain," one operator said.

Despite repeated pleas to BWSSB officials, residents have received only promises. BWSSB chairman Ram Prasath Manohar explained that the delay is tied to the pending release of Cauvery Stage 5 water. "These layouts, including Kamadhenu, were developed in 110 villages where water wasn't originally allocated. In a few weeks, they will start receiving BWSSB water. We're also addressing the tanker mafia issue," he assured.

New Delhi (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday slammed the opposition, saying those who were rejected by people 80-90 times were trying to control Parliament by resorting to hooliganism for their own political gains.

Addressing reporters ahead of the start of the Winter Session of Parliament, Modi said such handful of people did not succeed in their intentions but people of the country observed their actions and punished them at an appropriate time.

Modi's remarks came days after the BJP-led coalition won the Maharashtra Assembly elections by a landslide, bagging 235 seats and relegating the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi to a distant 49 seats in the 288-member House.

Earlier, the BJP registered a surprise third consecutive victory in the Haryana polls, trouncing the Congress, which was billed as a pre-poll favourite.

"There should be a healthy debate in the Parliament but, unfortunately, certain individuals are trying to control Parliament for their own political gains, resorting to disruptions and chaos," Modi said.

"Though their tactics ultimately fail, the people watch their behaviour closely and deliver justice when the time comes," he added.

Modi said he had been repeatedly urging opposition colleagues, and some also agreed that Parliament should function smoothly.

"But those who have been continuously rejected by the public ignore the words of their colleagues and disrespect their sentiments and that of democracy," the prime minister said.

The Winter Session of Parliament began on Monday and is scheduled to continue till December 20.
