Bengaluru: In a road accident that reportedly occurred around 1.30 am, a car lost control and crashed into an electric pole resulting in the deaths of 7 individuals including the son of Tamil Nadu’s Hosur MLA Y. Prakash, at Koramangala in Bengaluru.

The deceased have been identified as Hosur MLA Y. Prakash’s son Karunasagar, Bindu (28), Akshay Goyal, Ishitha (21), Dhanusha (21), Rohith, and another resident of Haryana named Utsav, the police informed. 

It is learned that the horrifying accident took place around 1.30 am near the Mangala Kalyana Mantapa in Koramangala. The driver of the luxurious Audi Q3 reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an electric pole, resulting in the deaths of the three women and four men inside the vehicle. 

Joint Commissioner of the Traffic department Dr. B. R. Ravikantegowda visited the accident site and conducted an inquiry. Later, he addressed the media and briefed, “The accident occurred between 1.45- 2 am. The severity of the accident has resulted in the deaths of 7 people in the vehicle. 6 of them died on the spot, while one individual has breathed their last at the hospital”, he clarified. 

“On the surface observations indicate that fast driving may have caused the accident. careless, fast driving has led to the accident. Investigations are underway to find out where the passengers of the car were coming from. I have notified to investigate whether alcohol was consumed”, he said. 

A case has been registered in this regard at the Adugodi Traffic Police Station.

New Delhi (PTI): The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a plea seeking to impose a statutory prohibition on social media usage for children below 13 years.

"It is a policy matter. You ask Parliament to enact the law," a bench of Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih told the counsel appearing for the petitioner.

"We are not inclined to entertain the present petition in as much as the relief sought is within the domain of policy," the bench said.

While disposing of the plea, it granted liberty to the petitioner to make a representation to the authority.

The bench said if such a representation was made, the same be considered in accordance with law within eight weeks.

The plea, filed by Zep Foundation, sought directions to the Centre and others to mandate the introduction of robust age verification system, such as biometric authentication, to regulate children's access to social media platforms.

The petition, filed through advocate Mohini Priya, also sought to implement strict penalties for social media platforms failing to comply with children protection regulations.
