Bengaluru: The Commercial Street police have arrested a suspect for printing counterfeit currency notes inside a hotel room in the city.

The accused has been identified as Krish Mali (23), the son of a textile businessman.

According to police, Krish Mali had checked into a hotel in Tusker Town on June 1 after a domestic dispute.

He allegedly carried a printer and scanner in his bag and began producing fake ₹500 notes using a color xerox method while staying in the room.

On June 7, as he was checking out, Mali paid the hotel bill of ₹3,000 using the counterfeit notes. However, earlier that morning, civil workers had informed the hotel manager that fake currency had been found in the waste collected from the premises. This prompted the hotel staff to inspect the payment made by Mali, leading to the discovery that the notes were indeed fake.

Upon further inspection of the hotel room, staff found a bundle of white sheets and cut pieces of counterfeit notes.

Hotel manager Mohammad Sharif Uddin then filed a complaint with the Commercial Street police station.

Police traced the accused using the address mentioned on the Aadhaar card he had submitted while booking the room.

He was subsequently arrested and has been remanded to judicial custody.
