Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda has said that the city police have arrested 18 people who were suspected to be involved in 12 cases of vehicle theft and recovered 120 vehicles.

The senior officer told reporters at a press meet in the city on Wednesday that 115 two-wheelers, four auto rickshaws and one car, whose total value was around Rs 95 lakh, were recovered from the arrested people. He added that eight to 10 of the arrested suspects have had crime cases against them earlier too, Deccan Herald has reported.

The Police Commissioner said that, in most instances, the unattended vehicles parked outside houses and offices were stolen. The vehicles were also relocated to different areas to evade detection.

The cases have been registered at the Rajagopal Nagar Police Station (1), Girinagar (2), Banaswadi (2), Nandini Layout (1), HAL (1), Madiwala (1), Bellandur (1), JP Nagar (1), Thalaghattapura (1), and Basavanagudi (1).

Dayananda said Bengaluru considered vehicle theft a serious matter as the vehicles could be used for other criminal activities. He added that the respective courts would be urged to cancel the bail pleas of the arrested suspects.

The Police Commissioner has also urged vehicle owners to take greater precaution and suggested the use of anti-theft mechanisms to ensure the safety of their vehicles.

Belthangady: A woman in her mid-50s from Guddethota in Shishila village here died after suffering a snake bite while working in a plantation on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Prema (55), was reportedly bitten by a cobra when working in a plantation located in Shishila village of the taluk on Sunday afternoon.

The members of the Shourya Disaster Response Team, who were informed of the incident, arrived at the plantation and took Prema to the Puttur Government Hospital, but the patient is learned to have died due to the intensity of the snake venom.

Prema is survived by her daughter and son.
