Bengaluru: The Karnataka government’s 50 percent discount on pending traffic fines has seen a huge response, with payments amounting to ₹7.19 crore recorded in just the first two days.

According to the Bengaluru Traffic Police Department, a total of 2,56,102 cases were settled, resulting in the collection of ₹7,19,51,500 in fines.

The one-time discount scheme is valid between August 23 and September 12. However, the offer applies only to traffic violation cases registered before February 11, 2023, police officials clarified.

Citizens can check pending traffic violation cases by entering their vehicle registration number on the BTP Astra app, the Karnataka State Police (KSP) app, the Bengaluru Traffic Police website, or the Karnataka One portal. After selecting the fine they wish to clear, the discounted payment option will be available for online settlement.

In addition to online payments, fines can also be cleared by visiting nearby traffic police stations and providing vehicle registration details.

Officials further informed that if a fine has been wrongly imposed, motorists can file a review request online or submit a complaint directly at the Traffic Management Centre for rectification.

Noida (PTI): A 46-year-old businessman was burnt to death after his moving car caught fire in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar district, police said on Tuesday.

According to police, the victim was identified as Rajkumar Singhal, who was engaged in the paint business. The incident occurred late on Monday night near Sorkha village under the Sector 113 police station area.

Station House Officer Krishna Gopal Sharma said Singhal was driving towards Parthala Chowk when his vehicle suddenly caught fire for reasons yet to be ascertained.

Singhal was unable to get out of the car and died in the blaze, the SHO said.

Fire tenders reached the spot after receiving information, but the car had already been gutted, police said. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and an investigation is underway.

Police suspect the presence of paint or other inflammable material in the car may have caused the fire to spread rapidly.
