Bengaluru (PTI): The Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka on Sunday demanded a thorough investigation into the blood curdling murder of a Digambar Jain monk in Chikkodi in Belagavi.
The monk, Acharya Sri Kamakumara Nandi Maharaj, was cut into pieces and his body was dumped in a defunct borewell in village Hirekodi of Chikkodi Taluk.
Police have already arrested two people Narayana Basappa Madi and Hassan Dalayath in this connection. They said the murder was committed over money matters.
BJP state chief Nalin Kumar Kateel on Sunday condemned the incident and demanded a thorough investigation covering all aspects related to the crime.
Kateel also appealed to the state government to provide security to the monks and saints of the state.
"The government should take this case seriously and ensure that the culprits are booked," Kateel said in a statement.
BJP spokesperson and MLC N Ravi Kumar appealed to the government to investigate the case properly as there were possibilities of involvement of more people in the crime.
Meanwhile, the last rites of the Jain muni were performed as per Jain traditions on Sunday at Hirekodi village.

Kolkata (PTI): Ratna Debnath, mother of the raped-murdered RG Kar hospital doctor and the BJP candidate from Panihati, filed her nomination papers on Thursday.
She was accompanied by senior BJP leader and former Union minister Smriti Irani and district party leaders.
Speaking to reporters after filing her nomination, she said her sole aim is to oust the TMC regime in West Bengal, which, she alleged, would ensure women's safety in the state and prevent a recurrence of incidents like the RG Kar case.
Nearly a year and a half after the brutal killing of her 26-year-old daughter inside a locked seminar room of the state-run hospital in August 2024, Debnath agreed to contest the polls on a BJP ticket from her hometown Panihati after being approached by the party "to bring to light the truth behind the crime".
She is pitted against TMC's Tirthankar Ghosh and CPI(M)'s Kalatan Dasgupta.
