Bidar: Addressing the media, Forest, Biology, and Environment Minister Eshwara Khandre said that the allocation of Rs 3454 crore towards relief efforts, comes as a result of the state government's persistent efforts, including legal action in the Supreme Court.

Addressing the media, Khandre underscored the severity of the drought situation, citing the lack of rainfall that has plagued the region. He highlighted the deployment of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in September to address crop losses and water shortages.

Initially, the state had requested Rs 18,171 crore from the central government to mitigate the impact of the drought.

However, Khandre lamented the delays and perceived neglect from the central government, which he described as a "step-motherly attitude" towards the state's plight.

Following intervention from the Supreme Court, the central government had agreed to expedite the disbursement of funds to avoid further embarrassment.

Khandre further spoke on the need for the remaining funds to be immediately released in a fair and equitable manner to adequately address the ongoing challenges faced by the drought-affected regions.
