Bengaluru: On Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a sarcastic comment towards Siddaramaiah, the former Karnataka Chief Minister and current Congress Legislature Party leader, for selecting Varuna as his constituency for the upcoming state Assembly elections.

BJP member and IT cell Cheif Amit Malviya, took a dig at Siddaramaiah, by claiming that Siddaramaiah doesn't have a confident winnable constituency in the upcoming state Assembly elections. Malviya tweeted, "Congress claims, 5 times a day, that they are winning Karnataka except their CM aspirant and the only ‘mass leader’ doesn’t have a constituency he is sure of winning. Siddaramiah abandoned Badami, Chamundeshwari and Kolar to finally pick Varuna, his son’s seat, to contest from!”

The Varuna constituency in Mysuru district is set to be a significant battleground to keep an eye on during the upcoming Assembly elections. Siddaramaiah, has decided to contest from this seat, which is presently held by his son and incumbent MLA Yathindra.

Siddaramaiah was nominated as the Congress candidate from his hometown Varuna in the initial list of contestants issued on March 25, replacing his son. However, he has expressed that his desired seat is Kolar in the Old Mysuru region and has already initiated his election campaign there.

The initial list released by the Congress party for the upcoming Assembly elections featured 124 out of the 224 total seats, but excluded both Badami, which was won by Siddaramaiah in the 2018 elections, and Kolar, the constituency where the veteran Congress leader had expressed his interest in contesting from.

The Karnataka Assembly election will take place on May 10, with results set to be announced on May 13.
