Mandya, October 14: Lashing out at the family of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha said that the Mandya district was deprived of development from those who do politics in Mandya sitting in Hassan.
Addressing the party workers and leaders at the party office here on Sunday, Pratap said that the district was not developed because of Deve Gowda’s family. When Deve Gowda was the Chief Minister in 1995, he had signed NICE road project aimed at developing Bengaluru-Mysuru route. But till date, the project was not completed. Every day, around 35,000 vehicles ply on the road. In order to avoid accidents and deaths, the BJP government has announced the road as National Highway and approved to develop it as ten-lane road. Already, land was acquired for the purpose at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore and work was started at Rs 2,000 crore. Apart from this, it was planned to open Passport centre in district centre, he said.
BJP candidate Dr. Siddarame Gowda had worked in the ABVP during his student life and done a good job as Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission. So, the party has given him the ticket and this time, the BJP would hoist its victory flag in Mandya, Pratap Simha said.
BJP leader Shivalinge Gowda said that the liars and actors would become the JDS candidates. The JDS has given ticket to a liar which will help the BJP, he said.

Tumakuru (PTI): Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Saturday said his recent remarks on the demolition of properties linked to those involved in narcotics trade were "misunderstood and misinterpreted".
His clarification follows remarks made two days ago on the government's uncompromising crackdown on the drug menace, including action against properties linked to foreign nationals allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
"It is unfortunate. It is taken in the wrong sense. I didn't mean that tomorrow itself I am going to send bulldozers and demolish the houses. That was not my intention. It was wrongly taken," he told reporters here.
Responding to Congress MLC K Abdul Jabbar's question in the legislative council on the growing drug menace in Bengaluru, Davangere and coastal districts, the minister on Thursday detailed the extensive enforcement measures initiated since the Congress government assumed office.
Pointing to the involvement of some foreign nationals, the minister had said, "Many foreign students from African countries have come to Karnataka. They are into the drug business. We catch them and register cases against them, but they want the case to be registered because once the case is registered, we cannot deport them."
"We have gone to the extent of demolishing the rented building where they stay," he had said.
