Hubballi, November 4: Saying that the state government should not celebrate Tipu Jayanti against the feelings of people, former chief minister Jagadish Shettar said that the government would be held responsible if any untoward incidents happened during Jayanti celebration.
Speaking to reporters at his residence here on Sunday, Shettar said that the BJP would not allow the Tippu Jayanti. Earlier, Kumaraswamy had opposed Tippu Jayanti celebration. Now, it was not fair to conduct the celebration from the government, he said.
“We won’t oppose if the Congress and JDS celebrate Tipu Jayanti as their programme. But we would not accept spending public money just to appease one particular community”, he cleared.
