Bengaluru: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers on Tuesday, June 5, launched widespread protests in Bengaluru in response to controversial remarks made by Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences Minister K Venkatesh regarding the slaughtering of cows.

The protesting party workers took to the streets in Bengaluru with their cows to demonstrate against the remarks made by the minister.

Venkatesh questioned the rationale and decision of the previous government's ban on cow slaughter while permitting the slaughter of bulls and buffaloes. He also highlighted the challenges faced by farmers in maintaining aged cattle and disposing of deceased animals. Additionally, he mentioned the shortage of funds for managing gaushalas (cow shelters) in the state.

The BJP, including former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, strongly criticized Venkatesh's remarks. Bommai expressed shock at the statement, emphasizing the emotional connection and reverence Indians have towards cows, which are regarded as a mother figure.

During the protests, BJP leaders and party workers raised slogans and displayed placards opposing the proposal to revoke the anti-cow slaughter law. However, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defended Venkatesh's statement, stating that no decision had been made yet and the matter would be discussed in the upcoming cabinet meeting.

Belagavi: A social media post claiming that members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) attacked the residence of Colonel Sofia Qureshi’s husband in Konnur village, Gokak taluk, has been termed false by Belagavi Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled.

The post, shared from an X (formerly Twitter) account named Anees Uddin, quickly went viral online. However, SP Guled clarified that the claim about an RSS-led attack on the residence of Colonel Qureshi's father-in-law is entirely baseless.

SP Guled urged the public not to fall for such misinformation being spread on social media. He added that adequate police protection has been provided to the house in Konnur following the viral rumours.

Gokak Circle Police Inspector Suresh R.B. visited the spot and conducted an inspection to ensure peace in the area.
