Bengaluru, May 17: Total seven members were given rebirth from the vital organs of 42-year-old donor Chandru who was declared brain-dead in Sparsha hospital at Yashwanthpur.
Doctors at Sparsha hospital took the liver, two kidneys and valves of the heart from Chandru and transplanted to seven members successfully.
Chandru who was travelling in an auto on May 13 at 6 pm, sustained head injuries when he fell down from the auto as the auto driver applied break to avoid a bus approaching head-on, at Devanahalli Bellur Cross. After first aid, he was shifted to Sparsha hospital where he was declared brain-dead.
Under a government programme to encourage organ donation, Chandru’s wife Yashodha and her relatives were requested to donate the organs. Later, Yashodha and her family members agreed to donate the organs, which gave rebirth to seven persons.
After Yashodha agreed to donate the organs, the doctors at Sparsha hospital took the liver first and transplanted it to a patient. Dr Mathew, Dr Rajeevalochana, Dr Mallikarjuna Sakpal and team successfully transplanted the liver to the receiver. Later, Dr Ramachandra, Dr Avinash and their team members transplanted one kidney to another patient. Another kidney and valves of the heart were given to JSS Hospital of Mysuru and Narayana Health City respectively.

ISLAMABAD: At least two more cases of poliovirus were reported in Pakistan, taking the number of infections to 52 so far this year, a report said on Friday.
“The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health has confirmed the detection of two more wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases in Pakistan," an official statement said.
The fresh infections — a boy and a girl — were reported from the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
“Genetic sequencing of the samples collected from the children is underway," the statement read. Dera Ismail Khan, one of the seven polio-endemic districts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has reported five polio cases so far this year.
Of the 52 cases in the country this year, 24 are from Balochistan, 13 from Sindh, 13 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.
There is no cure for polio. Only multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and completion of the routine vaccination schedule for all children under the age of five can keep them protected.
