Budget 2025: K’taka govt. announces ‘Akka cafe’ canteen to empower women
Bengaluru: The Karnataka government, as part of its women empowerment initiatives in collaboration with gram panchayat self-help groups, has announced the establishment of ‘Akka Café and Canteen’ in district and taluka panchayat office premises to create employment opportunities for women.
The announcement was made by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during the presentation of the 16th state budget.
The CM furthermore revealed that integrated Agricultural Clusters will be set up in every taluka to support women farmers. To strengthen nutrition supply, self-help groups will be encouraged to provide eggs and vegetables to schools, anganwadis, and hostels. In a move to boost local tourism and entrepreneurship among women, a Community Tourism Scheme will also be implemented in each district.

Ramadan fasting to kickoff from Thursday in Karnataka
Bengaluru: The Holy month of Ramadan will start from Thursday, February 19, announced convener of the State Moon Sighting Committee Maulana Maqsood Imran Rashadi on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference after the Moon Sighting Committee meeting held at the State Waqf Board office on Cunningham Road in the city on Wednesday evening, he said that there is no information about moon sighting anywhere in the capital Bengaluru, including other districts.
“However, after receiving reports of moon sightings in neighbouring states including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Delhi, it has been decided to start fasting from Thursday,” he said.
The meeting was attended by Maulana Mufti Iftikhar Ahmed Qasmi, Maulana Ejaz Ahmed Nadvi and other members of the ulema.
