Vijayapura: A police constable’s Facebook comment, challenging Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah to see if he could do without police security, has gone viral on social media.
The policeman, Vijayapura Rural Police Station constable Rajashekhar Khanapur, commented responding to Siddaramaiah’s words at a speech during the ‘Bharata Aikyata Yatre’ held by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.
The post by the police constable has also come under the scanner mainly at the hands of Siddaramaiah’s supporters.
On Friday, Siddaramaiah, addressing the ‘Bharata Aikyata Yatre’ in Gundlupet, Chamarajanagar district, had said, “The state government will change in six months, and the Congress will be back in power. I warn some of the policemen, if they support the BJP, we will have to teach you a lesson.”
In response, Khanapur has told Siddaramaiah on Facebook, “When you criticize the police to such an extent, you should be able to reach home without police security.”
The former chief minister’s supporters, however, have criticized the constable for supporting the BJP openly on social media. “A government job requires a staff member to work without showing affiliation to any party,” they pointed out.
H D Ananda Kumar, superintendent of police, Vijayapura district, has stated that the Facebook comment by constable Khanapur will be reviewed. “We will take action if we get a complaint. No one has complained in this regard so far,” he clarified.

Bengaluru (PTI): A second-year Pre-University Course student allegedly died by suicide at her residence here, hours after the exam results were announced, police said on Friday.
Tanushree (17), a science student, reportedly failed in three subjects, which is suspected to be the trigger behind her taking such an extreme step, they said.
However, no suicide note was recovered from the spot, except her hall ticket, which was found lying on the bed.
According to police, the incident came to light on Thursday around 3.30 pm, shortly after the results were announced.
She hung herself from the ceiling fan when no one was at home. Her mother had gone to work, a senior police officer said.
Citing preliminary inquiry, the officer said it is a clear-cut case of suicide. She was apparently distressed over failing in three subjects and had also called her friends to discuss the same.
When she did not respond to their calls and messages later, her friends decided to check on her, he said.
Based on her mother's complaint, a case of unnatural death has been filed, with Hebbal police investigation indicating it to be a case of suicide, police added.
