Bengaluru, May 31: Candidates from all the three political parties have filed their nominations for 11 to be elected from the Assembly to the Legislative Council and there is all likelihood that all the candidates would be elected unopposed.

On the last day of filing the nomination papers, K Govindaraj, CM Ibrahim, Aravind Kumar Arali and K Harish Kumar have filed their nomination papers from the Congress. In the same way, BM Farooq and SL Dharme Gowda from JDS, and S Rudre Gowda, Raghunath Malkapure, Tejashwini Gowda, N Ravikumar and KP Nanjundi have filed their papers from BJP.

Verification of papers

Verification of the nomination papers would be held on June 1 and June 4 is the last date for withdrawing the papers. If there are more than 11 candidates are in the fray, then election would be held for the posts. If only 11 nomination papers are filed for the same number of seats, then result might be announced after verification of the papers.

Voting should have been held on June 11 from 8 am to 4 pm and counting of votes should have been held from 5 pm. As there are only 11 candidates, the result might be announced on June 4, it is said.

The term of BJ Puttaswamy, MR Seetaram, Motamma, DS Veeraiah, Syed Mudir Aga, Somanna Bevinamarad, Raghunath Rao Malkapure, Bhanuprakash, CM Ibrahim, K Govindaraj and BS Suresh would end on June 17.

Davangere: Reports state that two groups engaged in stone pelting at each other during Ganesha idol immersion ceremony in Davangere on Thursday. Two police personnel were injured in the incident.

Few days ago, two groups of youth engaged in verbal altercation regarding raising of a flag for Eid Milad celebration. On account of the clashes, police had heightened security for the Ganesha procession. Despite the additional security, stones were pelted at the procession, sources stated. Inspector Gururaj and constable Raghavendra were injured in the incident. The procession continued after the police brought the situation to control. However, the stone pelting resumed once again as the procession surged forwards.

Security has been tightened up in the area and all shops have been closed down by the police. The two police personnel, who were injured in the stone pelting, are undergoing treatment at a hospital.
