Shimoga: Minister of State for Rural Development, K.S Eshwarappa said, “For COVID control, when there is a government comprising of elected representatives, I am surprised that the Governor has been called for the meeting.”

Speaking to the media persons in Shimoga on Tuesday, the Minister responded to the media representative’s questions on the Governor’s intervention in today’s (April 20th) meeting set to decide COVID control measures in the state and said, “It’s surprising to see the governor’s direct attendance in a meeting related to COVID control. When there is a government comprising of elected representatives, I do not understand why he has called for the meeting”, he expressed.

“CM, Opposition leader, and various others have been called for the meeting. Is this good? I am not saying that the Governor should not call a meeting. However, it has brought forth a suspicion as to whether this is a preface to a new system in the state”, he said.

“Maybe the Governor called this meeting after seriously considering the speed at which the COVID transmission is occurring. Maybe he has called the meeting with an intention to raise awareness among the elected representatives. Whatever decisions he may undertake, will be good for the state” he said.

Responding to the question concerning lockdown, Eshwarappa said, “There is no requirement of a lockdown in the state. There is no doubt in that. However, all of us will commit to whatever decision is taken by the Governor”, he said.
