Koppal: A case has been registered against expelled BJP MLA from Vijayapura, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, at Koppal Town Police Station for allegedly making a controversial statement targeting the Muslim community.
The case was filed based on a complaint lodged by one Abdul Kalam.
On August 11, Yatnal had visited the residence of Gavisiddappa Nayak, who was murdered in Koppal city’s Kurubara Oni. During his visit, Yatnal told the media that “Hindu youths who marry Muslim women will be given a cash incentive of ₹5 lakh.” The statement soon went viral on social media, newspapers, and news channels across the state, drawing criticism.
In his complaint, Abdul Kalam stated that Yatnal’s remarks insulted Muslim women with a derogatory mindset, spread hatred between two communities, and posed a threat to communal harmony in the state. He demanded strict legal action against the MLA for instigating communal tension.
Based on the complaint, Koppal Town Police have registered an FIR (Crime No. 99/2025) against Yatnal under Sections 196(1)(a), 299, and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
