The communal remarks by Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra in connection with the murder of Chandru, a youth from Goripalya had caused widespread outrage over social media and certain Kannada news channels. After the minister’s allegations that the youth was killed for not speaking in Urdu in a Muslim area, the Karnataka Police have now updated an official factchecked report of the case.
The factchecked report is published under the title, “Facts about a news clip which claimed that the youth was murdered for not speaking Urdu in Muslim area”. The report noted that the clip that went viral on social media which was originally broadcasted by Kasturi News 24 is fake and added that the video is far away from reality.
Further, the report also mentioned a poster of Meera Raghavendra while warning that legal action will be taken against those spreading fake news. The report by the Karnataka Police also informed the citizens to be alert and avoid the spread of fake news.
