Chitradurga: In a major development, the Second Additional Sessions Court in Chitradurga has acquitted Dr. Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru of the Murugha Math in the first POCSO case filed against him. The case pertained to allegations of sexual assault on minor girls.
Arguments in the case were completed on Tuesday, and the court had said it would deliver the verdict on Wednesday. As announced, the judgment was pronounced today, with the court clearing the seer of all charges in the first POCSO complaint.
The case dates back to August 26, 2022, when two minor girls filed a complaint at Mysuru’s Nazarbad Police Station, alleging sexual abuse by the seer. He was arrested on September 1, 2022, and later released on bail.
Two separate cases had been registered based on the allegations. Since the first FIR involved two survivors, two separate charge sheets had been filed. The latest verdict relates to the first of those cases, in which the court has now acquitted the accused.
