Chitradurga: Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundurao who was on his visit to the Kavadigarahatti village on Saturday ordered suspension of the District Surgeon after he received complaints when he was at the hospital.
Gundurao who firstly visited the village expressed his condolences to the deceased's families and announced Rs 5 Lakhs Ex-Gratia. On this occasion, he provided checks of Rs 5 Lakhs to three of the families. During this time, the patients and their relatives at the hospital complained to the minister against District surgeon Basavaraj, Gundarao upon receiving complaints reprimanded Basavaraj.
In the meantime, it has been learnt that the patients had alleged the hospital staff of extorting bribes for the maternity ward, X-Ray wards'. In light of these allegations, the Minister ordered the commissioner Randeep to suspend Dr. Basavaraj.
After meeting the affected he addressed the media, during his media interaction he expressed his condolences to everyone affected by the tragic incident at Kavadigarahatti. He has directed the authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and submit a report. It has been decided to provide financial compensation of up to 10 lakhs to the families of the deceased, he said. Such incidents should not recur, and officials were urged to provide a suitable report on the causes behind the incident and take appropriate measures accordingly.
“If similar incidents are suspected anywhere else, I have already informed the authorities to take appropriate measures promptly. I have also discussed with the concerned officials about the overall development of Kavadigarahatti and have decided to take necessary actions for the progress along with the cooperation of the Minister-in-charge,” Gundurao added.
He further said that he has instructed them to investigate why and how this incident happened. A team from the Health Department has already been sent for inspection. After receiving a detailed report from the team, appropriate legal actions will be taken as per the law.
