Chitradurga: The local police on Thursday the former administrator of Murugha Mutt and former MLA S K Basavarajan in connection with the case of theft of Shivamurthy Murugha Sharana’s photos installed on the wall of the royal palace at the Murugha Mutt.

Earlier, the police had arrested Mohanamurthy, a former member of the Hosahalli Gram Panchayat, and Shivanandaswamy, a lecturer at the diploma college, in relation to the case. Based on the statements of the arrested duo, the police arrested Basavarajan on Thursday and are reportedly questioning him regarding the case.

Basavarajan was arrested on the charge that he had incited the occurrence of the photo theft.

Another accused, identified as Shrinivas, has also been arrested and is also being questioned by the cops.

Basavarajan’s wife, Soubhagya, is also being questioned by the police in this regard.

On October 6, 47 photos of Shivamurthy Murugha Sharana had been stolen from the wall of the Murugha Mutt’s royal palace. The said photos were images of Murugha Sharana with prominent personalities who had visited the Mutt on different occasions. Based on the CCTV camera footage captured of the thieving episode, two of the accused in the case were arrested on November 7.

Guwahati (PTI): Blistering fifties by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel powered Rajasthan Royals to a six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their IPL match here on Friday.

Sent in to bat, RCB rode on a fighting half-century by skipper Rajat Patidar (63) to post 201 for 8.

Virat Kohli (32), Romario Shepherd (22) and Venkatesh Iyer (29) also chipped in with useful contributions.

In reply, Sooryavanshi (78 off 26 balls) and Dhruv Jurel (81 not out off 43 balls) shared a 37-ball 108-run partnership for the second wicket to set the platform. Krunal Pandya (2/30) tried to bring them back with back-to-back wickets.

But Jurel, in the company of Ravindra Jadeja (24), completed the task with another 68-run stand, with two overs to spare.

For RR, Jofra Archer (2/33), Ravi Bishnoi (2/32) and Brijesh Sharma (2/37) took two wickets.
