Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his profound sorrow over the passing of renowned journalist, activist, and thinker V T Rajshekhar, who passed away today morning. In his post on X, the Chief Minister remembered Rajshekhar as a fierce advocate against the caste system and human rights violations, who led the journalism profession with a spirit of activism.

After serving for two decades at the Indian Express, Rajshekhar left the publication in 1981 and launched the Dalit Voice. The Chief Minister reflected on his personal connection with Rajshekhar, describing him as a guiding figure and senior well-wisher, with whom he had been acquainted since the inception of Dalit Voice.

Siddaramaiah noted that Rajshekhar’s death not only marks a huge loss to society but also creates an irreplaceable void in the realm of progressive thought. He also expressed his condolences and solidarity with Rajshekhar’s family, including his son Salil Shetty, former General Secretary of Amnesty International, and other loved ones during this time of grief.

Mumbai (PTI): A 75-year-old man died after some portion of a slab in a two-storey residential structure collapsed on him in Mumbai's Bhandup area on Saturday morning, officials said.

The incident occurred at Tulshipada in Patkar Compound of Bhandup West around 9.45 am, they said.

"The victim, identified as Susai Daevdas Kaunder, was injured when some part of the slab on the upper floor of a two-storey structure fell on him," a civic official said.

He was immediately taken to nearby Navkaar Hospital, where he was declared dead, the official said.
