Dharwad: Former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa's recent comments have triggered a bold response from Fakir Sri Dingaleshwar Swamiji, setting the stage for a close fight in the upcoming elections.
Speaking at a support meeting organized by the State Farmers Union and Green Army at a private hotel in Hubballi, Dingaleshwar Swamiji asserted, "We will know in the near future whether it is confidence or overconfidence." This statement was a direct retort to BSY's warning to not contest against Union Minister Prahlada Joshi.
Dismissing BSY's advice, Dingaleshwar Swamiji said that his commitment is to his self-esteem. He further stated, "We do not listen to anyone when our self-esteem is threatened." He further declared that discussions regarding the election will only be held with devotees and voters, not with any party leader.
Accusing Prahlada Joshi of fearing defeat, Dingaleshwar Swamiji highlighted Joshi's recent efforts to meet and organize with leaders of various communities. He also addressed alleged slander spread by Joshi's devotees, claiming to be devotees of the Math.
He further said that his devotees have claimed that some have threatened them. Hence they may not be able to openly show their support. However, our devotees are saying that we will do whatever we want to do inside.
Dingaleshwar Swamiji is set to submit his nomination papers for elections on April 18, with expectations of significant support from his followers.

New Delhi: The Chinese Embassy in India has called for solidarity between China and India in the face of escalating trade tensions triggered by the United States’ recent tariff hike.
On 8 April 2025, Yu Jing, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy, highlighted the mutual benefits of China-India trade ties and encouraged both nations to work together to address the challenges posed by the U.S. administration’s tariff policy.
On 2 April 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 10% baseline tariff on all imports, with higher rates for selected countries. As a result, China now faces a cumulative tariff of 54% on its exports to the U.S., while India is subject to a 26% tariff. The move, intended to address trade imbalances, has caused ripples across the global economy.
In response, China has announced a 34% tariff on all U.S. goods, effective from 10 April 2025. President Trump has warned of an additional 50% tariff on Chinese imports unless Beijing retracts its retaliatory measures.
The embassy’s appeal for unity comes as Beijing seeks to build alliances amid increasing trade friction with Washington. However, experts remain sceptical about the possibility of deeper China-India cooperation due to longstanding political and strategic differences between the two neighbours.
