Belagavi: Condemning the installation of Savarkar’s portrait on the porch of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha here, the leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah led a protest with the Congress MLAs at the main entrance of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha on Monday.

In a letter to the Speaker, Siddaramaiah urged that the ideals and thought processes of various other great personalities must be kept alive and their portraits must be installed in the assembly hall of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha at Belagavi.

“Visionaries, intellectuals, and national leaders such as Maharishi Valmiki, Basavanna, Kanakadasa, Shishunala Shareef, Narayana Guru, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru, Babu Jagjivanram, Kuvempu, and Vallabhbhai Patel have contributed greatly to the culture, tradition, and development of the country. Their thought processes and ideals hold true to all times and are worth following,” Siddaramaiah said, in the letter.

The Congress leader also urged the Speaker, “We request that the portraits of all these great men be installed at the Assembly hall of the Belagavi Suvarna Soudha, and their ideals illuminated.”
