Bengaluru, June 9: The conspiracy to tag dalit movement leaders Dr. Prakash Ambedkar and Jignesh Mevani of Gujarat as naxals is highly condemnable, said senior rationalist A.K Subbaiah.
Speaking in a press meet organised at press club in the city, Subbaiah said, an FIR was filed against Dr. Prakash Ambedkar and Jignesh Mevani for taking part in Koregaon divas rally organised on Bhima Koregaon vijayotsava day. BJP has said that the letter written by dalit leaders that conspired to kill Prime minister Narendra Modi contains the names of these two dalit leaders. This way they are trying to subjugate dalit movement, he said.
It is a crime to say that there is a conspiracy to kill a person being chosen by the people. Nobody can kill anybody. We openly condemn this. we are skeptical about the fact that the Maoists have plans to murder PM Modi. We suspect that this rumour has been spread only for the sake of publicity. Thorough investigation has to be done on this and culprits need to be punished as per law, he said.
In Bhima Koregaon case FIR needs to be filed against the people of dominant Maratha Kshatriya community. They had provoked gullible youths to fight against dalit community. They attacked the people who were returning to their places peacefully after observing Koregaon divas. There are videos of provocative speeches made by Maratha leaders. But no action has been taken against them, Subbaiah said.
General election is scheduled to take place next year. This election is the litmus test for Modi, Jignesh Mevani and Dr. Prakash Ambedkar is creating awareness among dalit communities about the dangers of BJP, Modi and Sangh Parivar. They are questioning the four years rule of Modi and asking report card of the development. Hence, the government is making false allegations on dalit leaders to suppress their voice, A. K Subbaiah said.
Trimurthy of Komu Souharda vedike, dalit leader N.Venkatesh, Krishna Reddy and others were present.
BJP and Sangh parivar should stop making false allegations on Jignesh Mevani and Dr. Prakash Ambedkar. They should withdraw the FIR being filed against these dalit leaders.Strict action must be taken against the fascists who are indulging in atrocities on dalits and oppressed communities. Jignesh Mevani must be provided with F security as he has received death threats. -A.K Subbaiah

New Delhi, Jan 2: The Congress-affiliated National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to name Delhi University's upcoming college after former prime minister Manmohan Singh, instead of Veer Savarkar.
PM Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for Veer Savarkar College in Najafgarh on Friday.
The institution was approved by Delhi University's Executive Council, its highest decision-making body, in 2021.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, NSUI national president Varun Choudhary highlighted Singh's contributions to education and governance, requesting that the college honour his legacy.
Singh, who passed away last month at the age of 92 at AIIMS Delhi, was a veteran leader of the UPA government and a transformative figure in Indian politics.
"Honourable Prime Minister, you are set to inaugurate a college named after Veer Savarkar under the University of Delhi. NSUI strongly demands that this institution be named after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Ji. His recent passing has left a deep void, and the most fitting tribute to his legacy would be to dedicate premier educational institutions in his name," the letter read.
NSUI also called for including Singh’s life journey, from a post-Partition student to a global icon, in academic curricula.
They emphasised that Singh's legacy as a scholar, economist and public servant symbolised resilience, merit and dedication to public welfare.
"Singh established numerous institutions like IITs, IIMs, AIIMS and introduced the Central Universities Act. Naming institutions after him will inspire generations and honour his transformative vision. The government must act immediately to recognise his unparalleled contributions to India," the NSUI said.
NSUI further requested the establishment of a central university named after Singh and the inclusion of his achievements in the academic curricula.
The letter has also been forwarded to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, urging immediate action.
