Bengaluru: Former Legislative Council member and BJP leader CP Yogeshwar is expected to join the Congress, with sources indicating that he will contest from Channapatna, a seat left vacant by the resignation of Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy.
Yogeshwar submitted his resignation as an MLC on Monday, and it is now almost certain that he will contest on a Congress ticket, delivering another blow to the BJP-JD(S) alliance. His formal announcement is expected soon, according to close associates.
Just days earlier, HD Kumaraswamy hinted that Yogeshwar was in contact with Congress. On Monday, Yogeshwar stated that he would contest only from the BJP, but if denied a ticket, he might run as an independent. However, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar responded, saying he had no knowledge of Yogeshwar's plans to join Congress.
