Bengaluru,  May 5: The CPI has decided to extend it support to Congress in 219 constituencies in the Assembly election apart from Kudligi, Sira, Bagepalli, Kalaburgi rural and Melukote.

CPI Executive Committee member HV Anantha Subba Rao said that Veeranna and Girish  of CPI would contest in Kudligi and Sira respectively, while CPM candidates would contest from Bagepalli and Kalaburgi rural constituencies, and Dharshan Puttannaiah of Swaraj India would contest from Melukote constituencies. Congress, JDS and BJP have been campaigning for the election in a brisk pace. Unfortunately, caste and money were playing a major role in this election. Instead of discussing over the manifestos, allegations and counter-allegations and personal attacks have been taking centre stage, he said.

The BJP has no moral right to ask votes because, its leaders have been saying that they have come to power just to change the Constitution. BJP has no faith in democracy, socialism and social justice for which it should be defeated. The JDS has no ideology, principles or philosophy. Only family politics is their objective. It has no credibility among people because of its opportunist attitude. So it could not protect the interests of the people. So, the farming community, labourers, women and others should support the CPI, CPM, Swaraj India and Congress candidates in the election, he said in a press release.

Bengaluru: The Advocates' Association of Bengaluru has formally requested the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, Justice NV Anjaria, to suspend live streaming of court proceedings temporarily. This follows recent controversies stemming from remarks made by Justice Sreeshanand during hearings, which were broadcasted live.

The association's letter, signed by President Vivek Subba Reddy, General Secretary T.G. Ravi, and Treasurer Harisha M.T., highlights that certain statements made by the judge have sparked nationwide discussions and gone viral, leading to significant public and professional backlash. The statements have particularly affected younger and female advocates, leading to concerns over the treatment of members of the Bar by judges.

The Advocates' Association expressed that these remarks have not only damaged the public image of the judiciary but also hurt the sentiments of lawyers. Although Justice Sreeshanand is commended for his integrity and judgments, the association emphasised that his side remarks are undermining his positive work.

In their letter, the association has urged for a temporary halt to live streaming until there is proper sensitization on the nature of statements made in open courts. They believe this step is necessary to prevent further damage to the judiciary's reputation.

The association hopes for immediate action on the matter.
