Chikkaballapur: A 16-year-old Dalit boy in a village of Chintamani taluk in the district was tied to an electricity pole and beaten severely under suspicion of theft on Thursday night.

Yashwanth, is the son of Anand, a resident of Kempadenahalli village of Ambaji Durga hobli of Chintamani taluk, and the incident took place within the rural police station limits of the taluk, said sources.

On Thursday night, Yashwanth was playing with other children of the village. Several people, who suspected the teenager of having stolen the ear rings of the daughter of Nagaraj, another resident of the village, pulled away the boy, tied him to a power pole near the milk dairy and whacked Yashwanth, the teenager’s mother said in her complaint to the police.

Narayanaswamy, Naveen, Nanjegowda, Harish, Nagaraj, Ambika and Doddegowda were among those named as the assaulters, in the complaint.

Yashwanth’s mother got her grievously injured son admitted to the Chintamani government hospital, the sources added.

Three of the accused have been arrested by the police, it is learned.

Deir al-Balah, Nov 1: Israeli airstrikes on Friday killed at least 24 people in northeastern Lebanon, the country's news agency said, raising the death toll from eight there.

It was the latest deadly toll in the area since the conflict between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah escalated last month.

Israel's military has said that its operation in Lebanon is targeting Hezbollah's military infrastructure.

Lebanon's state National news Agency reported four airstrikes in different villages across country's northeast, saying rescuers were still searching for survivors in Younine, a town in the Bekaa Valley, from the rubble of a targeted house.

Hussein Haj Hassan, a Lebanese lawmaker representing the region in Baalbek-Hermel region, said that 60,000 people have already fled their homes in the area due to Israeli bombardment.
