Mysuru: The highly popular 'Jamboo Savari' of Dasara, considered a symbol of the harmonious culture of the land, paid a conventional visit to the Hazrat Imam Shah Wali Dargah on Monday, before the start of the elephant procession.
The convention of the elephant squad 'Gajapade' visiting the Dargah leads back to the rule of Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, when one of the elephants in the squad fell ill and recovered after paying a visit to the Dargah. Since then, during every Dasara, the 'Gajapade' is led to the Dargah to get blessed before starting the 'Jamboo Savari', Mohammed Naqib-ul-lah Shah Khadri, who heads the Dargah, said.
The 'Gajapade', led by Abhimanyu, who would be carrying the main howdah for the Dasara procession, visited the Dargah situated at the Chamaraja Mohalla. On receiving the blessings from the Imam for the elephants to remain healthy for the procession and for the Dasara celebrations to be carried out without a hitch, the elephants offered their respects with a salute, before leaving for the procession.
