Bengaluru: Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Eshwar B. Khandre on Wednesday said that if the Special Investigation Team (SIT) confirms reports of illegal burials inside reserved forest areas, strict action will be taken under the Forest Conservation Act.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, the minister made it clear that no non-forest activities are allowed in reserved forests. “If forest land is to be used for development projects or for public purposes, clearance under the Forest Conservation Act (FC) is mandatory,” he explained.
He further stated that if the SIT establishes that bodies were illegally buried in forest areas, the government will take legal action as per the provisions of the law.
