Haveri: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday during a press conference in the city asserted that he had not deceived Former Deputy Chief Minister Eshwarappa and that he had asked the high command to give ticket to Kantesh in view of social justice. He further clarified that he agreed to contest after the high command’s instructions.
This comes in the backdrop of Eshwarappa alleging Bommai of switching his stance. Eshwarappa claimed, "Bommai himself had initially proposed Kantesh's candidacy for the constituency, citing his poor health. However, after securing the ticket, Bommai reversed his statement."
Speaking at the press conference, he said, "There is no information regarding Eshwarappa's meeting. Eshwarappa knows everything. He knows everything about what I said in the Parliamentary Board."

"My candidacy was not confirmed within the Parliamentary Board. I advocated for someone else to be given the opportunity from the standpoint of social justice. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National President JP Nadda, and Home Minister Amit Shah insisted that I contest. Therefore, I have decided to contest," added Bommai.

Kolkata (PTI): A blaze erupted in a multi-storey building in south Kolkata's Haridevpur area on Sunday, an official said.
The fire, which broke out in the apartment complex at 10.40 am, was doused by five fire tenders by noon, he said, adding there are no reports of any injury.
Disaster management and civil emergency services personnel also reached the spot and took steps to prevent the blaze from spreading to the adjacent flats.
The fire was confined to a single flat on the fifth floor and did not spread to other parts of the building, the official said.
The flat residents were not present inside when the blaze erupted as they had gone to a nearby temple to offer puja, he said.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage are yet to be ascertained, he added.
