Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has opined that entire Dakshina Kannada closes shop shortly after 7 pm adding that there is no attractive night-life in the district that taps the local talent.
The Deputy CM, who addressed the Assembly on Tuesday, said, “There is a lot of opportunity in Coastal Karnataka for the growth of business activities and health as well as religious tourism, especially because of its beaches. The opportunities, however, are not utilized well enough since Dakshina Kannada is active only till 7 pm. We find only religious activities like Bhajan and Yakshagana being conducted in Dakshina Kannada after that.”
He added, “Dakshina Kannada has a very number of medical and engineering colleges, but most of the talented youngsters are shifting to Bengaluru, Mumbai and Dubai, which is a worrisome matter. There are no means of entertainment for the youth of Dakshina Kannada, because of which, no youngster wishes to move to the district.”
Shivakumar advised the local MLAs and MLCs of the district to discuss the matter and present a proposal for the development of Dakshina Kannada.
Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja, who spoke on the occasion, said that all BJP legislators from Dakshina Kannada supported the stand of the Deputy CM in relation to the progress of the district.

Jaipur (PTI): Retired IAS officer Subodh Agarwal, arrested in connection with the alleged Rs 960-crore Jal Jeevan Mission scam, was produced before an ACB court on Monday, which sent him to two days' police remand.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau had sought a three-day remand for further questioning in the matter, but the court granted two days' custody.
The order was passed by the ACB Court-1.
A team from the ACB arrested Agarwal on Thursday in connection with the multi-crore Jal Jeevan Mission corruption case.
He was sent to a three-day police remand on Friday. On completion of the remand period, the ACB produced him in court.
Agarwal was serving as the additional chief secretary of the public health engineering department when the alleged scam took place.
Some firms had allegedly secured tenders by submitting forged completion certificates in connivance with officers. Last month, the ACB arrested nine persons, including senior engineers and retired officials, in connection with the scam. Earlier, the ACB had arrested contractors.
