DKS pacifies sugarcane growers; Protest halts for now
Belagavi: Sugarcane growers temporarily withdrew their dharna, which was staged near Belagavi Deputy Commissioner's office demanding the pending amount of sugarcane.
Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday called on sugarcane growers who had been protesting for the past four days. The minister offered tender coconut to Siddanagowda, a farmer who was fasting.
"Do not fight and take the law into your hands. We are with the farmers of the state. This is not my department. But I understand your pain. Therefore I have come to you. Sugar factory owners have not paid you money. The government has talked with your representatives. The government will solve your problem," Minister DK Shivakumar said.

Three dead due to suspected toxic gas inhalation inside septic tank at Raipur hospital
Raipur, Mar 17 (PTI): Three persons died, apparently due to inhalation of toxic gases, inside a septic tank at a private hospital here late Tuesday evening, police said.
The incident took place at Ram Krishna Care Hospital in Pachpedi Naka area, a police official said.
The deceased were cleaning the tank, he said.
Police had to struggle to retrieve their bodies, said the official.
"Prima facie, it seems they died after inhaling some poisonous gas inside," he said, adding that further investigation is underway.
