Tumkur: Dr. Waseem and Dinesh R. of Tumkur District hospital performed a surgery and removed as many as 99 gallstones from a woman’s abdomen here on Wednesday.
When 45-year-old Salma went to the Tumkur District Hospital with pain and swelling in her abdomen, little did she know that doctors would detect as many as 99 gallstones.

“When she came to us, she had severe abdomen pain. Her sugar level was abnormally high and haemoglobin was low, apart from other issues. We admitted her for 15 days and stabilised her parameters before we worked her up for the surgery. The surgery was done on Tuesday,” said Dinesh R. and Waseem Imran.
Dr. Waseem said although multiple gallstones are not unusual, finding 99 in a person is rare. “In the three-hour surgery we removed her umbilical hernia and the gallstones. She will be discharged in eight days, he added.

Bengaluru: In the wake of the tension on the border between India and Pakistan, the State Intelligence Department has issued a circular regarding sensitive areas in the state that require high alert and security.
The circular has advised to increase security in administrative buildings, defense plants, scientific research centers, airports, reservoirs, satellite stations, hydroelectric plants, thermal plants, software companies, petroleum and natural gas stations, pipeline stations, crowded shopping malls and star hotels.
The Intelligence Department circular states that tight security should be maintained at foreign diplomatic missions, residential and other buildings, heavy industries, temples, mosques, churches, and other places where crowds gather.
AASC checks, mock drills and ensure that the CCTV cameras already installed are in good condition, the circular read.
The circular has also directed to keep a watch on those involved in cases like terrorist acts, those convicted, those involved in acts like bomb making and terrorism using bombs.
The circular states to be vigilant about places where devices like explosives and detonators are manufactured, those involved in acts that terrorize the society through fundamentalism, those who disturb public peace through speeches and slogans against India, and those involved in cases like sharing terrorist activities on social media.
The Intelligence Department circular has directed to monitor those sharing false news on social media, strangers visiting respective cities/districts, movements of suspicious persons and their places of stay/hotels, etc.
