Bengaluru: Informing the High Court verbally, the state government said that the order imposing entry-restrictions on border regions connecting Karnataka and Kerala, which was previously granted to District administrative authorities would be withdrawn.
The High Court’s Divisional Bench oversaw the hearing into the Public Interest petition submitted by B. Subbaiyya, an advocate from Kasaragod that questioned the imposed entry-restrictions on the Kerala border ordered by the Dakshina Kannada DC.
Representing the petitioner, Advocate K. Ravishanker argued that the state government has explicitly stated in its new regulations that entry restrictions must not be imposed upon the interstate travellers and vehicles running between states at the interstate borders. Despite this, the State Government’s Traffic division is imposing such restrictions. Moreover, no provision in the law allows local authorities to restrict traffic, he informed the bench.
The Advocate representing the State Government responded by verbally stating that the State Government would withdraw the powers vested on local authorities to block traffic along the border and the check-posts. The Tribunal recorded the statement and ordered the state government to release a written clarification in this regard and pushed the hearing to May 1st.
The Advocate representing the Central Government, M.N Kumar informed the bench that the state's border traffic would not be closed in accordance with the central government's new rules.
