Eurofins partners with St Joseph’s University to build India's human capital
Press Release: Eurofins Group of companies in India have partnered with St Joseph’s University, Bangalore to establish an advanced Analytical Chemistry Laboratory. The laboratory is equipped with the latest instruments that will provide hands-on experience to Chemistry Master’s level students. In addition, students of the Master’s program will get practical training at Eurofins Group labs in Bangalore. The initiative, under the CSR program of Eurofins Advinus, Eurofins Analytical Services and Eurofins Amar Immunodiagnostics, is a part of the Eurofins group’s commitment to support the Atma Nirbhar program of India by developing human capital.
Speaking at the inauguration of the lab, Neeraj Garg, Regional Director of Eurofins group of companies in India, “Eurofins, a leader in Custom Research & Development services for the Pharmaceutical sector and a leader in Food Testing in India, is supporting the training and development of Chemistry students in the country. This is a key initiative to expand the testing and R&D infrastructure in the country”. Fr Victor Lobo SJ, the Vice-Chancellor, St Joseph’s University, commented “We are very excited by this multi-year partnership between Eurofins’ companies in India and St Joseph’s University, as it enables our students to learn on the advanced equipment which is normally only available in high-end commercial labs of companies like Eurofins”.
Eurofins companies in India have been working with academic institutions to develop the talent pool in the country, and this grant under the CSR program of the companies, will provide a major boost to developing industry-ready, highly trained analytical chemists to support R&D and Testing in the country. This is a model that the company is hoping to replicate in other parts of the country with other leading academic institutions. Present during the inauguration were also Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ, Pro-Chancellor and Rev Dr Fr Victor Lobo Sj, the Vice Chancellor, St Joseph’s University and Fr Joy Rodrigues SJ, Secretary, Bangalore Jesuit Educational Society (BJES), along with Rajiv Malik, Managing Director of Eurofins Advinus and Pankaj Jaiminy, Managing Director of Eurofins Analytical Services. Fr Xavier SJ, the director, Research at SJU spoke on how the laboratory came to be establish the lab at SJU through the good offices of Mr Arun Kumar, HR head at Eurofins. Fr Swebert blessed the lab after which faculty and students of chemistry and research had a look at the facilities at the newly instituted lab.

Savarkar remarks: Rahul Gandhi appears in Pune court via video link in defamation case, gets bail
Pune, Jan 10: A special court in Pune on Friday granted bail to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case related to his alleged objectionable remarks on Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar.
The MP/MLA court granted bail to the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha on a surety bond of Rs 25,000 after he appeared before it through video conferencing, his lawyer said.
Senior Congress leader Mohan Joshi stood as surety for Gandhi (54) before the court presided over by Amol Shinde, judicial magistrate (first class) and special judge for MP/MLA cases.
Advocate Milind Pawar, representing Gandhi, said soon after his client appeared before the court, they moved a bail application.
The judge allowed the plea and granted bail to the former Congress president on a surety bond of Rs 25000, he informed.
The advocate said the court also granted permanent exemption to the Lok Sabha MP from Rae Bareli from appearing before it.
The case was filed on a complaint by V D Savarkar's grandnephew Satyaki, who alleged Gandhi had made defamatory remarks against the Hindutva icon at a programme he attended in London in March 2023.
Earlier, advocate Sangram Kolhatkar, representing Satyaki Savarkar, objected to Gandhi's application seeking virtual appearance.
There was no provision that allows an accused to appear in court through video conferencing before securing bail, Kolhatkar argued.
The court, however, permitted Gandhi to attend the proceedings online.
Wearing a bottle green sweater, the Congress MP appeared before the court and stated his name when the judge asked for it.
The matter will be next heard on February 18.
As per the complaint, Gandhi, while speaking at the London event, stated that Savarkar had written in a book that he and five to six of his friends once beat up a Muslim man and he (Savarkar) felt happy.
According to the complaint, the freedom fighter had not written this anywhere and the Congress leader's remarks were aimed at defaming him.
At the time, the court had asked the Pune police to investigate the allegations and file a report.
The Vishrambaug police, after an inquiry, submitted that there was prima facie truth in the complaint.
Gandhi had skipped the previous court appearance on December 2 citing the winter session of Parliament which he was attending.
His lawyer Pawar had then assured that the opposition parliamentarian will appear in the court on January 10.
