Bengaluru: Congress leader and MLC B.K. Hariprasad has launched a strong attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), questioning its legality, sources of funding, and its claims of being a cultural organization.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi on Wednesday, Hariprasad asked, “Why do RSS members carry sticks during their route marches? Let them march without sticks if it’s truly a cultural event. The RSS is not even a registered organization — if something goes wrong during these marches, who will be held accountable?”
He further criticised the organization’s activities, saying, “They apply oil, play DJs, and dance in front of mosques and churches. Is this a cultural activity? What kind of patriotism is this? True patriotism lies in respecting the tricolor, the national anthem, and the Constitution — things they have consistently disrespected.”
The senior Congress leader alleged that the RSS gained political power through spreading hatred. “Every time the RSS was banned, they sought forgiveness and got the ban lifted. The organization is unregistered, yet it collects crores of rupees in the name of ‘Guru Dakshina’ and has built offices worth hundreds of crores. Where is this money coming from?” he questioned.
Recalling history, Hariprasad said, “It was Sardar Patel who banned the RSS. At that time, they apologized and claimed they were a cultural, not political, body. Even now, the RSS says it’s not involved in politics, but BJP leaders proudly declare themselves as RSS men. If the Taliban takes power directly, the RSS controls power indirectly.”
Backing Minister Priyank Kharge’s statement, he added, “He was right in saying that the RSS should not be allowed to operate in government premises. The man who killed Gandhi, Godse, should be declared the first terrorist. If the RSS wants to conduct route marches, they should do it along the Pakistan or China border, not in our cities. This country has law and order — they are trying to disturb it, and that’s why we oppose their marches.”
