Bagalkot: In a major digital upgrade to school administration, facial recognition technology will be used to monitor student attendance in government-run primary and high schools in Karnataka within the next two months, Minister for School Education and Literacy Madhu Bangarappa announced on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media during a visit to Bagalkot, the minister said the initiative follows a budgetary provision made by the Chief Minister, with the goal of enhancing efficiency in attendance tracking across the state's government schools.
Alongside the tech rollout, Bangarappa also revealed that moral science lessons would be reintroduced into the school curriculum. The decision, he said, came after extensive discussions with various stakeholders, including Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti.
The minister pointed out that children are increasingly exposed to various challenges due to a lack of moral direction. “Introducing moral science will help instil humanitarian values which is the need of the hour,” he said.
In addition to these announcements, the minister stated that department would initiate the process for recruitment of 16,500 teachers once the government finalised the internal reservation.
