Bengaluru: Abdul Hameed Mushrif, who lost the recent Assembly election as the Congress candidate from Vijayapura constituency, has approached the High Court, asking for a disqualification of BJP legislator Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, alleging that Yatnal won the election using fraud voters.
Addressing reporters in the city on Wednesday, Mushrif also accused Yatnal of indulging in distortion of the voters’ list to win the elections.
“The Congress found fake voters from Chincholi taluk in Kalaburagi district casting vote in favour of Yatnal at polling booths. While our activists got photos of such fraud voters, who were caught red-handed, the police officials took no action in the matter,” the Congress leader said with anger.
Mushrif demanded, “A door-to-door survey be conducted all over Vijayapura constituency. Officers who have abetted such illegal activities that deprived citizens of their voting rights should also be made to face the law.”
He added that he has written to the President of India, Governor, Chief Election Commissioner, Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer, Chief Minister and the District Election Officer to take action in the matter.
