Kalaburagi: The city police have arrested five government employees for allegedly committing financial fraud by forging the signature of the Kalaburagi City Corporation Commissioner, Police Commissioner Dr. Sharanappa S.D. announced on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference, the Commissioner revealed that the accused misused their positions to siphon off several lakhs of rupees. The arrested individuals include Mohammad Naimuddin Saragi, a Class 1 Assistant and personal assistant to the Commissioner, residing in Millat Nagar; Wajid Jabbar of Bilalabad Colony; Mirza Arif Baig from Ahmed Colony; Nasir Ahmed, an accountant at the Corporation, residing in Islamabad Colony; and Mohammad Abdul Rehman, a senior programmer at the Corporation, from S.K. Mill Nagar.
Dr. Sharanappa stated that ₹30.75 lakh would be seized from the accused, and further legal action is being pursued. He commended the Brahmapur Police for their investigation, which led to the arrests. Deputy Commissioners of Police Kanika Sikriwal and Praveen Nayak were also present at the press meet.

Panaji (PTI): Police have busted an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket operating out of a house in South Goa, arresting four persons, an official said on Sunday.
A team from Verna police raided the premises in the Shindolim area of Sancoale village near Vasco on Saturday night and caught the accused red-handed while accepting bets on the cricket match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, he said.
The accused, Pranjal Tiwari (23), Amar Dawda (33), Shashank Kumar Sahu (19) and Sandeep Singh (23), hailed from Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, and were staying in a rented premises.
As many as 10 mobile phones, two laptops, a tablet, an internet router with a signal receiver and cash worth Rs 37,000 were seized from the house, the official said, adding that a case has been registered under the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act.
